Accelerating Her Story: Prints that Empower
When I was little, I was bitten by a dog and taken to the police station. An officer—a true angel (really, he was an angel)—brought me to the hospital and back to school. In those days without mobile phones, it took forever for my mama to find me. But when we returned to thank him, we were told he never existed! That moment shaped me—I wanted to be a police officer, I wanted to help people, but my fear of all things gory changed my path.
I dreamed of being a philanthropist (which was laughable) or a tourist (which wasn’t a job). Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine becoming a creative. And now, here I am, preparing to take over an entire gallery with my story.
I’m thrilled to announce that New House Art Space will host my solo exhibition, Accelerating Her Story: Prints that Empower, this March for International Women’s Day. This immersive exhibition will dive deep into the intersection of African culture, textiles, and storytelling—celebrating the empowering journeys of women in business and the arts.
Opening Reception 📅 Join us on Friday, March 8th from 7-9pm to explore a powerful visual journey of my work.
New House Lates: On Thursday, March 13th from 6-8 pm, I’ll be hosting New House Lates, where I’ll share my journey as the founder of Stories We Cherish in an intimate conversation. We’ll close the evening with a special round table dinner celebrating women, culture, and connection—served with delicious African-inspired food. (Tickets for the dinner are sold separately)
Textile Workshop” To round off the month, I’ll be hosting a Textile Workshop on Saturday, March 22nd. This hands-on experience invites you to create a unique print that reflects a personal story of joy and resilience on a tote bag—blending fabric pens and a mix of mediums. All materials will be provided.
Little me would never have believed this was possible—but here we are.
